Yudhishthira offered his services as Virata’s courtier knowing that he, a king-in-hiding, would be more able a counsellor than any other man or woman.
Yet Virata mostly ignores his advice.
“Both heirs to divide the property equally? My lord surely remembers their parents’ will – the elder to inherit all and pay a stipend to the younger.”
Virata sighs.
“My friend surely remembers that the elder brother has proven an unworthy steward, gambling away half the property. The younger is justified in asking for his share.”
Yudhishthira flushes and reaches for his wine cup.
Bhima has filled it with water.
